Swansea Stained Glass – Summary

The architectural stained glass course in Swansea exerted a transformational and international influence on the teaching and practice of stained glass since the 1950s. Over the decades a collection of hundreds of student exhibition and competition panels has been amassed, which contains work by renowned artists responsible for innovative stained and architectural glass around the world. The archive also demonstrates the range of techniques that were taught and the influence of the artists who taught there, as well as visiting artists, notably the German artists that visited in the 1970s and 80s, including Ludwig Schaffrath, Johannes Schreiter and Jochem Poensgen.

A searchable online catalogue of these stained glass panels has been prepared by Martin Crampin, working with the artist Christian Ryan at Swansea College of Art.
