This volume contains the work of Ieuan Brydydd Hir, a poet from Ardudwy in Merioneth, who sang in the second half of the fifteenth century. Thirteen poems survive which are believed to be Ieuan’s authentic work, and in addition to these, two poems of uncertain attribution are edited in appendices together with three cywyddau ymryson by Tudur Penllyn. The majority of the poems which have survived are religious in nature, and include penitential pieces, praise poems to holy places (such as the roods at Brecon and Chester, and the well of Gwenfrewy), and a memorable meditation on the significance of life and suffering. .
